Our farm has won 11 Maryland, 6 West Virginia, and 2 Pennsylvania Grand Champion Awards.

Our farm is 1 ½ hours from Washington, DC. We cut trees daily throughout the season.

Our 2009 Grand Champion Note the extension of the latch hook twigs and the uniform space for hanging.	Same Tree, Decorated! Decorates quick and easy because the ornaments have room to hang straight.

OUR TREES HAVE WON THE MOST CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR 2 REASONS:

1. For 34 years, the best trees have been selected from their entire native sources.
         Douglas Fir from the Rocky Mountains
         Fraser Fir from the Great Smoky Mountains
The best selections have been rebred and cloned to make our own superior seed orchards.

2. We have invented a new way of pruning that preserves and maximizes strong latch hook twigs for ornamental hanging.

Our Tree Note the many latch hook twigs extending outward, and the open space between for hanging. The hangability is the result of our innovative hand pruning.	Commercial Tree Sheared with machetes, the latch hook twigs are destroyed and the bottom twigs are weak from yearly slashing.

COMMERCIAL TREES

Most Commercial grade trees are sheared with machetes or rotary blades, which makes a good topiary, but destroys the twigs to hang on and the space to hang in.

Wholesale Grade Tree Shearing with a knife has shortened the latch hook twigs and filled in the hanging spaces.	Same Wholesale Grade Tree-Decorated Ornaments have no space to hang straight. The tree becomes disorganized.

Note the uniformity of the spaces around the tree which contribute to the well balanced decorations.

A more open tree with strong branches and big spaces that actually look skinny at first.	The uniform open spaces make decorating extremely showy and easy.

You can fill an entire room with Christmas with one of these large trees!! We have both Douglas Fir and Fraser Fir that are as tall as 12-13 feet!!

In addition to our lush, natural 8 foot trees, we will have a selection of Fraser Fir and Douglas Fir up to 12 foot.

There is a forest of table top trees to choose from in Fraser Fir, Douglas Fir, and Concolor Fir.

History of the Farm

The farm has been growing trees since 1956. By 1974, we realized that  nobody had a handle on Christmas tree genetics, so we began yearly trips to the Rocky Mountains, which is the home of the native range of the Douglas Fir. We brought back selected seeds from eight Rocky Mountain states and Canada, then grew them to 8 foot maturity in West Virginia. It was obvious the selections were superior to commercial seed and we now sell seed stock to the trade.

From their better families, we relocated the very best trees for our local seed orchard. We now grow trees from this improved orchard, 35 years after our first selection.

Fraser Fir is native only above 5000 feet in the mountains of North Carolina, Tennesee, and Southern Virginia. Our selections were made from the 5 major mountains to grow in West Virginia.

We now have developed a clonal seed orchard from the best Fraser Fir selections.
